About the Author

Colin Freeman B.Sc., M.Sc., AALIA. Colin Is a Consultant in the design and development of Information Systems at International and National Level. He has taught Computer Programming, Electronic Communications, Systems and Database Design to both Undergraduate and Post Graduate students at the Australian National University, Australian Defence Force Academy and the University of New South Wales. He served for two years as a non commissioned officer in the Royal Australian Engineers and is a graduate of the University of Adelaide with majors in Zoology and Ecology and has a Master of Science Degree from the University of Sheffield. He is also a qualified professional Librarian. He lived in Papua New Guinea from 1967 to1972 and during that time was Foundation Librarian of the New Guinea Collection in the newly formed University of Papua New Guinea. He has walked over the mountains of Papua New Guinea several times crossing on the Kokoda Track and the Bulldog Road. He has also climbed Mount Albert Edward in the Central Ranges and dived in the reefs and lagoons of the Louisiade Archipelago which borders the Coral Sea. During his time in Papua New Guinea he published two books and a number of Professional Academic Papers and was a member of the Organising Committee for the 42nd Congress of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science held in Port Moresby On his return to Australia joined the National Library of Australia as a Principal Librarian. In 1978 he was posted to Washington DC as First Secretary in the Australian Embassy and represented Australia on a number of International Meetings until 1981. In recent years he has worked for the United Nations on Development projects in Nepal and Thailand and for the Asian Development Bank in Tajikistan. More recently he has worked in Vietnam designing information technology support for a National Medical Insurance System. As a qualified open water Scuba diver he has visited many different diving locations across the world and participated in the Development of Marine Reserves along the coasts of South Australia. Colin was captain of the Adelaide University Rugby Union team and represented South Australia on several occasions. He was also Captain Coach of the University of Papua New Guinea team and subsequently Coach for the Territory of Papua New Guinea.
