From the Curse of Willie Lynch to the Awakening

The forty year trek by African Americans through the economic and political wilderness was lead by the old warriors. They are now tired and deserving of the right to stand down. They are the warriors from the MLK Regiment who fought, and yes sometimes died to insure that all of those who followed would have the opportunity to be free of the Curse of Willie Lynch. The MLK Regiment, manned by Jessie Jackson, Meager Evers, Malcolm X, John Lewis, Ron Dellums, Shirley Chisholm, Barbara Jordan, Al Sharpton, etc.,, sat-in, demonstrated, and protested with the hope that the next generation would not have to. The next generation of black leadership must understand that true power in America is manifested in three ways; 1. Political power- -the power of the voting block; 2.Economic power- the ability to create and control wealth; 3. Family- the cornerstone of any society, from which flow the understanding of education, moral values, and a since of self. Politics-The True Black Power- the vote Forty years ago religiously educated men were sent by African Americans to congress to compete with lawyers. Today we send lawyers to compete with lawyers. In the beginning we would ask (sometimes beg) for a place at the table of power. Today, because of our political power, demonstrated in the recent presidential election, we are invited, no implored, to participate. Today we hold the balance of power for the election of the Democratic candidate for President provided that we continue to function in the same way as the African American voting bloc that decided the 2008 election. Because of our unified participation in that election the first African American, Barack Obama, was elected president of the United States.-- Martin was proud…
