About the Book
The Greatest Good is a powerful and thought provoking "field book" focusing on bringing integrity and growth to our personal and professional relationships. The authors build the case for the importance of healthy relationships in our corporations and our communities. With any luck, this book will change your life!
This book is written in tribute to the pioneering work of Henry Nelson Wieman, 1884-1975. Dr. Wieman was one of the greatest philosophers produced in America. In Man's Ultimate Commitment he wrote profoundly about his Philosophy of Creativity. This book is a humble attempt to re-state the essential concepts of Wieman's thinking in a manner easily understood and applied in our time. We are in a time when we need to hear Dr. Wieman's work. His ideas may help answer the question "what will be the ruling aim of my existence?" Special effort is made to show the practical application of Wieman's writing to the many interpersonal troubles pervasive in our modern organizations and institutions.
This is a book about bringing integrity and humility, creativity and appreciation, and trust and boundless growth to our relationships, the companies within which we work and the communities in which we live. The authors offer a new "experiential communication model" and describe the behaviors and outcomes that may result from opposing motivations: hurt-based and worth-based. This is an excellent "field guide" for developing healthy relationships both at home and at work. Several companies have been using the principles from The Greatest Good to build healthy teams and ethics-centered work cultures.
