About the Book

You will enjoy learning shorthand with this book. If you thought shorthand was difficult to learn, this book will change your mind.

Shorthand is a valuable skill for making notes at meetings, in classes or lectures. It is equally useful in the workplace, office or at home.

This book presents the Tabor method of script shorthand for general note-taking (Alpha-script). It is a simple method which can be learned quickly and easily, and be used from the very first lesson.

At this level you use primarily your own familiar longhand letters. After years of research then rules of word abbreviation have been deuced to a mere handful. There are two fundamental principles and three specific rules of abbreviation for the sounds of T and D, R and L. the three most frequently occurring prefix groups and some half-dozen suffix groups are simply expressed following common hand-writing practice.

The method is simple and logical and the book is designed for self-study or for classroom teaching. There are four parts; 1. Theory, 2. progression to the Professional level of the system, 3. Keyboard version (for typing on a QWERTY keyboard, and 4. Note-taking techniques.

Whatever your interests, shorthand is a skill for life. Use it to make classroom notes at school or personal notes at meetings or conferences. The simplicity of this method will enable you to write shorthand after only a few hours - all you will need is a pen (or pencil) and a piece of paper!

About the Author

The author has spent many years developing this unique approach to writing shorthand. A retired medical librarian, he has experienced the needs of people taking notes at meetings, and of students in undergraduate and postgraduate education.

After extensive research into older and existing shorthand systems he has evaluated techniques and methods. His conclusions are presented in this work; a unique integrated method of shorthand which can be written at two levels, one for the professional shorthand writer and another for the general note-taker.
