About the Book

In his autobiography Dr. Westney tells of his humble beginning, of his overwhelming determination to surmount obstacles in achieving his lifeÕs goals - success in family and professional life, and of his service in his church and the larger community. He informs regarding his migration to the United States of America, and his challenges in obtaining advanced education and specialty training in his field. He shares the joys that he has experienced in the practice and teaching of medicine, in rendering community service and in relating with family, friends and colleagues. There are six sections and twenty-four chapters in the book. Examples of the titles of some of the chapters are: ÒMy Guiding Principles,Ó ÒFamily Roots,Ó Socio-cultural Heritage,Ó ÒEnduring Values of Home,Ó ÒReflections on My Migration to the United States,Ó ÒHer Price Is Above Rubies,Ó ÒMedical Education and Postgraduate Training,Ó ÒPractice and Teaching Obstetrics and Gynecology,Ó ÒOn Caring and Sharing,Ó ÒOpportunities for Service,Ó ÒPersonal Medical Challenges,Ó ÒThe Role of Spirituality in Medicine,Ó ÒWhat Others Say About Me,Ó and ÒRetirement and Projections.Ó Accounts of Dr. WestneyÕs personal hurdles, coupled with his confidence that God has sustained him all the way, should stimulate assurance in others. He is particularly hopeful that the message of his book will inspire young men and women to pursue excellence, in spite of obstacles and transient disappointments along the way.
