About the Book
A remarkable account of the author’s struggle against a rare form of mouth cancer. Although daunted by the requests to write her story, only someone actually going through this experience could have written with such honesty. The reader is given an insight into the procedures and treatment as the diagnosis, operation and therapy take place. The factual elements of this book are supported by a very personal account of the feelings, emotions and reactions of the author, her husband and family. A photographic record was kept and the pictures that have been included graphically help to tell the story and were carefully selected as showing ‘key points’ along the way. Although a very specific form of cancer, the information on treatments such as radiotherapy will be helpful to anyone going through treatment themselves or who knows someone who is. The author does not gloss over difficulties or problems and each situation is faced realistically including the lowest points. Letters written during the lonely dark nights by Christine to her daughter in New Zealand are especially moving.
From a Christian point of view the book is a testimony to the power of prayer, love and friendship showing how God can bring us through the most difficult times to a place of peace, acceptance and hope for the future.
