About the Book
Eleven Stories for Romantics is a collection of short stories depicting the phenomenon that humans call love. Believable narratives of love lost and again found, tales of noble and lasting love with themes so varied readers will be taken back to their very first stirring of love. Stories of lifelong loves that Dante might have experienced with Beatrice, or Beethoven with Elise, his sister-in-law.
One might ask what is this phenomenon we call love? The famous lyricist Cole Porter in his song Night and Day defined love as "a hungry feeling inside of me." Biologists would have us believe that our pulse-quickening spells, the swooning and the faulty wiring in our craniums are merely nature's way of getting us to procreate. Interestingly, medical researchers using MRI brain scans of romantically involved people showed increased activity in the ventral tegumental area where dopamine (happiness substance) is produced.
Those of us who have been beguiled by love choose to lean toward the poets and romantics of our world. We believe that love is a mystic spell cast by troublesome angels who relish in our torment.
