An Interesting Life Devoted to God (For the Most Part)

I never once thought about writing a book about my life, and if I had I am sure that I would not have done so. However, when God told me to write such a book, he even told me the title of the book; then I had to take this request more seriously.* This is hard to believe. However, during my life I have heard God tell me to do certain things, and when I did them, miracles happened! I will tell you about them in this book. One question has been bothering me as I write this book. Why did God pick me to write a book? I know many men who are much holier than I am.... But God must know what he is doing! Even if just one person gets closer to God after reading this book, it will be worthwhile! This book is an autobiography, and not a novel, so what I have written is true to the best of my memory. Each day, before I would start writing, I would pray to the Holy Spirit to guide me in what to say, and to remember the important times of my life. It was amazing how certain items came to me, when I haven’t thought about them for many, many years. I am also sure the Holy Spirit had something to do with my keeping all the articles, photos, etc. that you will see. Many times I was ready to “clean out” these and other items that were in my files that I didn’t think I would ever look at again, but for some reason I never did get around to it. Now I know why! I write the stories in this book, not for what I have done, but what God has done through me... During World War 11, no one on our ship (USS Mona Island) was allowed to have a camera except the ship’s photographer. While we were overseas, I got to know him very well. When the war was over, he gave me copies of many of the pictures he took. He also knew the photographer who took the famous photo of the Japan surrender on the USS Missouri, and he gave me a copy of that also. In some sections of this book, I have added quite a bit of detail for those who might be interested in it, however, I am sure that there will be some who will not have that same interest. Examples might be the detailed agendas of some of the trips and pilgrimages that I took, and my various experiences while working for certain companies, such as Egan Machinery. I found a book at the library that compared the value of money from 1920 (and any year since then), and what that price would be today. You will find that I used this several times in this book.
