Wild Times on the Course

A “Birdie” Did You Say? Some golfers undoubtedly become very good because they started playing in their youth. Still, it doesn’t mean that old “duffers” enjoy their game any less. It is the one sport that remains unmatched in its variety and challenge, the chance to get fresh air and exercise, and make new friends who share the same obsession. Who else but golfers can find themselves in so many predicaments in their repeated attempts at success in directing a tiny object to a desired target using such a range of tools? Or chasing stupid balls with sticks, as my dear wife likes to say. She likes to use the word stupid when it comes to golf, just as when I once convinced her to join me on a driving range, where she teed up, took a powerful swing, missed, then dropped the club exclaiming “This is stupid!” She’s been a contented golf widow ever since, so I spend a lot of time by myself on the course. However, I’ve never been too lonely over the years because it seems I’m always getting to enjoy the company of Mother Nature. She has a sense of humour to be sure. Whether her creatures have distracted, interrupted, passed commentary, joined in the expletives or even saved the shot, the golf course is obviously one of Mother Nature’s favourite places to grace you with her presence. She has made my game an immense pleasure, even when I don’t get my own “birdie”, with unforgettable animal encounters that are a joy to share with others. I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I did.
