Clinton Williams has been an officer in the Union Army, sheriff of a small town in New Mexico Territory, and a transporter of five escaped slaves across free and slave states. Now it is time for a new adventure! War is fast developing between the northern and southern states and Clint is soon caught up in the conflict. He was heading home to Indiana when he discovered that his friends in Arkansas had been victimized by a band of guerillas and had stolen his horse! Trailing his missing friend (and horse), Clint soon found himself pressed into service in the camp of Colonel Ulysses S. Grant in the union army. Newly promoted General Grant is out to make a name for his self and Brevet Captain Clint Williams is along for the ride!
About the Author
Gerald Juan “Sam” Berry enlisted in the United States Army in 1960, received a direct commission and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1990. While his primary area of service was in Military Intelligence, Sam also served as an Infantry unit commander in Viet Nam and in brief tours in the logistic and maintenance areas. Prior to his entry into military service, he lived three years in Germany, two years in England, and one year in France. On active duty, he spent six years in Germany, two years in Okinawa and two years in Viet Nam. Following his retirement, he and his wife, Betsy, spent one year in the Dominican Republic. Sam has been an active member of the Boy Scouts of America since 1950 and earned the Eagle Scout Award. During his stay in England, he was a member of the Boy Scouts Association where he earned the Queen’s Scout Award. As a Scout adult, he has been awarded the Silver Beaver and the Good Shepherd Award from the Association of Baptists for Scouting and has served as a course director for two Wood Badge courses. Sam is an active member of the Lions Clubs International and the American Legion. He is a Life Member of Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity; the Veterans of Foreign Wars; the University of Maryland Alumni Association; the Association of Baptists for Scouting; the National Eagle Scout Association; and, the Overseas Arrowman Association. Sam has been married to Elizabeth Anne (Tobias) since 1967. They have a daughter, Susan, who is married to Tom Loden, and a granddaughter, Katherine.
