About the Book

Like many children of our youth, Zack, the main character, strives to find the right “look” for him throughout the text. He attempts various appearances and is certain he wants to imitate other characters displayed on the walls of the paint shop.  This is a seemingly relatable topic while observing the society children are forced to face in 2013. There is not one particular style or conformity that our youth is more commonly to take, so often children go through phases and paint themselves to be something they’re not. “I WANT TO BE LIKE…” illustrates that while in trying out different styles is perfectly acceptable- so is being yourself.

About the Author

I, like Zack in the book, have tried various looks, styles, and even career paths to get to where I’m at today. As a child, I was determined to be an artist and as I continued my studies into high school I was certain my destiny was in Early Childhood as a teacher. After pursuing two years of college devoted to Elementary Education in Miami, Florida, I packed my bags and moved to Ohio with an aunt I’ve only met twice. I was on a quest to find myself, to become the best me I could be and even traveled states away. I was convinced that the only way to be successful would be to finish college and obtain a degree but my gut took me elsewhere. After Ohio, I returned back to Pennsylvania and received my certificate in massage therapy as a suggestion of my uncle. I am currently waitressing. My travels and direction have changed several times but I am truly finding myself and realizing that I should have never lost the dream of becoming an artist. I am an artist and art is my passion. Pablo Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist, the problem is staying an artist when you grow up.” The pressures society presents to the youth and even our adult populations are inevitable, that is unless you find yourself and you establish yourself for what you truly are. I believe that the moment one recognizes their best person, success in this society is irrelevant. When someone truly finds themselves, success within their heart, within their skin, becomes the biggest reward achievable.
