Inspiring Those Around Us
We tend to focus on those people around us in a negative way on most occasions. We look at others differently; we judge them because they are not like us, or they have different opinions from us. I, for many years, didn’t realize that I did this but now understand that everyone judges one another. The problem is we are all the same in many, many ways, and we don’t even notice that we are judging people continually. We say we are different and some of us have better covers than others, but it is human nature to be this way—to judge one another about everything we do. I want to talk about how we can become leaders and inspire those people around us in a way that makes them feel good about themselves and others. Most of my friends have always thought that I was different because I have always gone to courses and continually tried to improve myself. Only one in every ten people will even attempt to improve themselves. Of those who are willing to improve themselves , 20 percent actually follow through on programs that they take or books they buy or tape programs that they purchase. This may be different, but I look at it like this: if someone wants to improve themselves, then no one has the right to judge them or put them down. I believe it is up to the individual to decide what is right for them and what is not right for them. My goal in life is to inspire as many people as I can to improve themselves to become whoever they want to become.
The problem with inspiring others and becoming this person we want to become is that it takes hard work. What we are capable of doing and what most of us are willing to do are two very different things. Most people don’t understand that they already have the ability to do anything they want in their life. It comes down to this: am I willing to do what it takes to accomplish what I want?
It usually takes great sacrifice to have what you want out of life. If you look around you and pay attention to the people who got it going on in their lives, you will see that these people usually have sacrificed the most. Nothing of value in your life comes without great sacrifice. What I hope to accomplish in my book is to touch, move, and inspire those who read it; to have them recognize the enormous power they already have within themselves; and to establish that they, and they alone, have the ability to accomplish whatever they desire in their lives. I will show people ways of tapping in to the power they already have within them. I will give them tools that allow them to move forward with their lives and break down any fear they may have when it comes to tapping into their power.
The one thing I have always noticed about life in general is that if you are willing to take action, your life becomes an unlimited resource to creating what you want. Meaning, all you need to do to have it as a reality is to make it a possibility.
There are two driving forces behind human behavior. These two driving forces help you decide whether or not you will do something or not. The two forces are pain and pleasure. If you do anything in your life, one of these two driving forces guide you in making your decision. If you believe eating that piece of chocolate will give you more pleasure than pain, then you are more likely to eat it. If you believe it will give you more pain than pleasure, then you are more likely to not eat it. If you think that working out will be more pain than pleasure, then you are more likely not to work out. If you think it will give you more pleasure than pain, then you are more likely to go and work out. You can look at any area in your life and attach the same principle.
Once you recognize that these are the associations that your brain makes to everything you do, then you are more likely to be able to change what you associate pain and pleasure to. You will now be able to change what you link pain and pleasure to. Create your own meanings of what things you will link to pain and pleasure. If you don’t understand what neuro association is, then you should learn. This is what happens in your nervous system that sends signals to your brain on an ongoing basis. People sometimes will react to things and not even know why, and it usually has nothing to do with their awareness of what is happening. It usually comes from their nervous system reacting to something because it is already linked to either pain or pleasure.
By understanding pain and pleasure, you can use them to do things you would rather do than things you would rather not. Linking different things to pain and pleasure is as simple as just doing it. To condition it, you need to do it on a consistent basis. By continually recognizing the things that you want in your life, you should be able to get them by changing what you link to them. Most people in today’s world tend to react rather than respond to events in their lives. It is very easy to react to things because we don’t need to think about it. When someone does something that in our mind we don’t like, many people will fly off the handle without really thinking about what it means to react this way.
I have watched people in airports when their planes have been postponed just lose it. They have verbally abused people at the ticket booth and done some very crazy antics. Whereas if you just sit back and realize that there is absolutely nothing you can do about the situation, you are far better off responding in a positive way and not overreacting. By doing this, you create a calmer situation, and you don’t cause your stress levels to go up at all.
There are many situations in your life where if you paid attention, you would realize that you instinctively react to so many things. For instance with our children, our coworkers, when we are in our cars driving to work. In most of these situations, we tend to react without thinking about the consequences of our reactions. For many years, this is what I did—without realizing it.
