Poetic Expressions for Travelers is a creation and collection of inspirational poems that are grounded in principles of scripture and the several experiences which come from the various interactions and relationships between and among characters in the scripture. What makes them inspirational is that they carry messages that speak to people in a variety of human socio-spiritual situations. Even if they cannot enter into the experience of the expressions personally they can identify with the humanity and humanness of them in a general way. To truly enjoy each experience of each expression, the reader has to locate the context of the expression in the traveler’s situation as he or she journeys. The fact is, you might be in it; coming out of it; or getting ready to go into it. At another most important level, this series of poems reflect essential attributes of God our Heavenly Father. In His dealings with human beings, and especially with his people, God always shows His character through attributes. In many situations, He has demonstrated that He is just; that He is wise, faithful, loving, merciful, powerful and kind; He is reliable too.

These poetic expressions are inspired to inspire and to inform. They come from the lives and experiences of various persons in a variety of situations. They were challenging experiences, joyful and trusting experiences that summoned faith, trust, and faithfulness. Moods and feelings open the heart and arrest the mind and soul. Joy, sorrow, thoughts of love and kindness are real and precious. Emotions run the gamut and meet you on your journey as you travel. You are invited to relate as each core of expressions grab you where you are on the road you’re traveling. You might cry, laugh, or even shout out loud when you really connect with the person inside. Be prepared and willing to go where you need to go at the very moment of your need, and your growth will be validated, reliable and satisfying so that you will pass it on in and through your life to shed light and insight on the journey of others who are traveling.

Dr. L. Alex Swan, Professor of Sociological Criminology and Clinical Sociology and Sociotherapy, in the Department of Sociology, is a Social Scientist and noted Scholar and Author. Swan’s published work includes twelve (12) books as author (6), co – author (4), and Editor (2), and over 50 journal articles. There are also several magazine articles.
