About the Book

Life, to be sure, can be an interesting ride. Thoughts on a Bicycle is a collection of poetry and short stories, which hopefully will inspire and transport the reader through their own individual experience. This collection reflects my distinctive journey. For life is, indeed, like riding a bicycle - with all of its ups and downs. We go from one type of vehicle to another as life changes. From two or three wheels to motorized or pedal-powered, over smooth or rough terrain - uphill or downhill. That’s what keeps life challenging, often demanding, yet always fascinating and always “worth the ride”. Enjoy this odyssey on your own personal “bookcycle”. Never give up. Always persevere. For one never knows exactly where your travels may lead. That is the journey. That is the discovery. That is each reader’s own unique ride. It is a treasure that no one can ever take away from you. May we, therefore, look “both ways” - backward and forward with appreciation of each effort made on our own highly individual rides through life. We may occasionally need to brake. We may sometimes break down. But just fix what is broken, pace yourself, regain your speed - and “carry on!”

About the Author

Mark Ferris Davy, M.D., the second of four boys, grew up in Colonial Beach, Virginia and presently lives in Richmond, VA. He has two great passions in life - medicine and writing. Mark attended The College of William and Mary as an Honors Biology Student, and then attended the Medical College of Virginia. He practiced family medicine in Virginia for 38 years. Shirley Simensen Davy, Mark’s mother, to whom this book is dedicated, passed the love of writing down to her family. At 16, she was the youngest columnist to ever write for The Washington Post with her ‘advice to the lovelorn’ column: “Ask Consuela Schlepkus.” Following in his mother’s footsteps, Mark has been free-lance writing for decades. He has been published locally and nationally in over 40 publications. Posey, his first children’s book, was published in 2021 and he is currently working on his second children’s book. Thoughts on a Bicycle is a collection of poetry and short stories, which he hopes, will inspire and transport his readers! When not writing, or dispensing medical advice, Mark can be found traveling (having visited 63 countries and counting), painting, antiquing, teaching, or hiking with his brothers.
